Morshyn

Morshyn is a well-known spa town in the Lviv region caring for gastrointestinal issues. Its main healing tool is natural mineral water which contains such useful micro-elements as iron, bromine, iodine, magnesium and considerable amounts of dissolved oxygen. Carlsbad of Halychyna is how it was called in the 19th century by those who came to this famous water resort from all over Western Europe

Modern Morshyn is a small resort town 85 km away from Lviv, which is the famous centre of the historic Halychyna region. Morshyn is a real paradise for vacationers. There are rivers, lakes, dense forest belts, fields in bloom, shady parks and crystal-clear air. All of the resort’s sanatoriums are located right in the middle of this magnificent natural oasis. From the very first moment you arrive in Morshyn, you feel wrapped up in a pleasant wave of tranquility and good spirits.

Carlsbad of Halychyna

The special aura of this place was first felt by our ancestors who founded the first settlement here in 1482. They found this wonderful water that was thicker than fresh water and not suitable for drinking. In underground salty reservoirs, Ukrainians learned how to extract the salt. It was a little bit bitter, but extremely beneficial.

Centuries passed. In 1875, a new Stryi – Stanislav branch of the railway opened, prompting further resort development. Convenient travel to Lviv made Morshyn known throughout all Europe where it was referred to as “Halychyna Spa”. The greatest credit belongs to entrepreneur Boniface Stiller, who constructed buildings, organized laboratory research and the sale of mineral water, salt and peat muds (or peloids), which abound in Morshyn. During the 20th century, the history of the resort was marked with changes in governing authorities as well as in ownership of the sanatoriums. But the main treatment factor, healing water, remained unchanged.

Knowledge is Everything

Digestive system diseases such as chronic gastritis, colitis, cholecystitis, pancreatitis and hepatitis, are the main reasons for seeking treatment at Morshyn. Caution: these diseases should not, under any circumstances, be in their acute stage. Due to the stimulating effect of the resort’s mineral water on bile production and elimination, the system is purified and immunity increased, which helps cure various urinary tract infections, metabolic diseases and allergic conditions.

The main treatment is drinking the mineral water. Then, it is necessary to follow the doctors’ instructions strictly. Morshyn water is highly-concentrated and is taken diluted under controlled temperature conditions in sanitary pump-rooms. Also, remember to buy here a special mug called kumanets with long curved ‘nose’ for drinking mineral water.

Also included in the treatment, are baths, showers, ablutions and other procedures involving the water. They are particularly effective in cases of gynecologic infections, prostatitis, and locomotor system problems. The treatment regimens are supplemented with physiotherapy and diet.

The diagnostic complex at the Morshyn sanatoriums has modern biochemical and immunological tests. Before booking a stay at the resort, you must consult your doctor and bring his recommendations.

It is important to remember that this wonder-water does not always show an immediate effect on everybody. For instance, chronic diseases require systematic treatment and further preventive treatment at the resort for several years.

There are a great number of leisure options, as well. For example, you can take an excursion for a few hours. Almost all sanatoriums have recreation grounds, tennis courts or swimming-pools on their territory.

Geographic data: Located in the Pre-Carpathian region at a height of 340 m above sea level. Climate is moderate continental, high humidity (up to 80%). Summer is hot and humid, autumn is dry and warm. Average temperature in January is from -4 to -9˚C, average temperature in July is from +18˚C to +24˚C.
